Mizanur was born into a struggling family in Gunaigas, Ulipur, where financial hardship was a constant reality. His father worked selling labor, but the income was insufficient to support the needs of a family of five. From an early age, Mizan worked alongside his father in the fields, taking on extra jobs to ease the burden. Despite the challenges, Mizan was determined to continue his education and improve his family’s circumstances.
However, life took an even more difficult turn when Mizan’s father fell seriously ill and was unable to work. To make ends meet, Mizan’s mother started working in other people’s homes. During this time, Mizan became even more determined to find a way out of the financial struggle and support his family in any way he could. This determination led him to take on multiple jobs, from pesticide spraying to working in a mechanic shop, despite his own dreams of continuing his studies.
The Turning Point: The SHOYE Project
Mizan’s breakthrough came when he learned about the Strengthening Household Opportunity through Youth Engagement (SHOYE) project, an initiative that provides vocational training to youth in marginalized communities. In 2022, Mizan enrolled in a driving profession training course under the SHOYE project, which covered all the costs of the program. The training program provided him with a valuable skill, and after three months, he successfully passed his driving test.
Upon receiving his driving license, Mizan’s life took a dramatic turn. He secured a job with a local truck owner, earning BDT 15,000 per month—a stable income that allowed him to provide for his family. His mother no longer had to work for others, and Mizan was able to cover his father’s medical expenses.
A Vision for the Future
Mizan’s journey didn’t stop with his personal success. He became a mentor to his younger brother, helping him become self-sufficient and learn the skills of mechanics.
