Project Overview

Advanced Research Thoughts Lab Ltd. (ART Lab) was engaged by The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THP-BD) to strengthen the organization’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) system through targeted capacity building on Outcome Harvesting (OH) and Most Significant Change (MSC) methodologies. This assignment supported the Multi-Stakeholder Initiative on Peace and Stability (MIPS) Project by equipping staff with practical tools to capture complex changes, enhance learning, and improve adaptive management in peacebuilding and community development initiatives. The program combined tool development, intensive training, hands-on coaching, and integration support to ensure sustainable application of these participatory approaches.

Services Provided by ART Lab

ART Lab delivered a comprehensive capacity-building package tailored to THP-BD’s needs. Key activities included:

  • Developed contextualized OH and MSC standards, guidelines, and templates aligned with THP-BD’s MEAL framework.
  • Designed and delivered a comprehensive 3-day hands-on training workshop for 32 THP-BD and MIPS staff members.
  • Created bilingual (English and Bangla) training materials, including participant manuals, PowerPoint presentations, case studies, and practical exercise sheets.
  • Conducted simulation exercises using real MIPS project scenarios to provide contextual and practical learning.
  • Provided on-the-job coaching and technical backstopping to THP teams during the implementation of OH and MSC exercises.
  • Facilitated review sessions to refine outcome statements, MSC stories, and related documentation for quality assurance.
  • Assisted in integrating OH and MSC findings into THP-BD’s program learning, reporting, and adaptive management processes.
  • Developed user-friendly templates for outcome harvesting statements, MSC story collection, and analysis frameworks.
  • Conducted pre- and post-training knowledge assessments to measure learning outcomes and training effectiveness.
  • Prepared a final comprehensive report documenting the process, learnings, and recommendations for institutionalizing OH and MSC within THP-BD’s MEAL system.

Key Personnel from ART Lab

  • Team Leader & Lead Trainer
  • Co-Trainer & Facilitator
  • Research Associate

Impact

The capacity-building initiative significantly enhanced THP-BD’s internal expertise in qualitative monitoring and learning methodologies. Staff members are now better equipped to systematically document and analyze significant changes and emergent outcomes in complex peace and stability programs. The development of bilingual tools, practical templates, and follow-up coaching has enabled sustainable integration of OH and MSC into the organization’s MEAL practices. This will lead to richer evidence, improved adaptive programming, and stronger program impact in the MIPS Project and beyond.
